drone using for firefighting
Drones are increasingly being used in the emergency and public safety departments in Germany. In other parts of Europe and the world, the so-called micro, multicopter or short UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) have become indispensable and are part of everyday operations. rescue-tec has now taken on the topic. After extensive test flights, we decided to include the Parrot Bebop Pro Thermal as a starter model in our range.
The quadcopter is easy to fly, is stable even in higher wind speeds in the air and is extremely fast to use. The "eye" of the drone delivers images in Full HD quality. Almost all components of the aircraft can be easily replaced by the user in case of damage.
A special feature is the built-in FLIR ONE Pro thermal imaging camera, which can be switched on during the flight. After many years of experience in the field of thermal imaging, the price-performance ratio convinced us.
There are many areas of application. The investigation of the scene of a fire and coordination of emergency forces, search and rescue operations, detection of “hot spots” or the recording of training missions are just a few examples. The bird's eye view also offers completely new possibilities for documentation of exercise scenario with later evaluation and debriefing.
The low weight of only 604 g makes no special driver's license for multicopter pilots necessary in Germany. According to the Aviation Code, there is no obligation or proof for emergency and public safety departments if the operation is in connection with emergencies, disasters and catastrophes (LuftVO,21a).
The video camera and the thermal image camera can be monitored live via streaming or recorded via command by the remote control. The data stored in the drone are also available for an exact evaluation after transmission.
Joint use of drones with hunting and forestry - a win-win cooperation
An example of an optimized application of the thermal drone is a cooperation between the fire brigade and the local hunting lessee. So, when working together, the fire department can use the drone for operations and training. The firefighting staff is extensively trained on the drone. The local hunting lessee can draw on this know-how and explore the area with the drone in preparation for a hunt. During the harvest, the field can also be checked in advance with the drone for wildlife. The firefighting staff supports in this case with a drone pilot.
