Softshell vs. fleece: a comparison of firefighter jackets
Softshell and fleece jackets are both popular outdoor jackets that are suitable for various activities. However, they differ in some respects:
Material:
- Softshell: Softshell jackets consist of several layers of synthetic materials that make them windproof, water-repellent and breathable.
- Fleece: Fleece jackets are made of synthetic polyester, which is soft, warm and breathable, but are only windproof or waterproof with the appropriate membrane.
Wearing comfort:
- Softshell: Softshell jackets are usually elasticated and close-fitting, but still offer freedom of movement.
- Fleece: Fleece jackets have a soft, loose cut and are very comfortable to wear.
Care:
- Softshell: Softshell jackets can usually be machine washed.
- Fleece: Fleece jackets should be washed on a gentle cycle to avoid felting.
Firefighter softshell jackets are versatile and suitable for different weather conditions, while firefighter fleece jackets are particularly warm and comfortable.
