Head and face protection for firefighters includes a wide range of protective equipment that has been specially developed to protect firefighters from the many dangers of their work. These include
Firefighter helmets: These protect the head from impact, falling debris, heat and flames. A firefighter helmet is made of heat-resistant materials such as fibreglass-reinforced plastic and is often equipped with a visor, neck protection and reflective elements.
Visors: Visors integrated into or attached to helmets protect the face from heat, sparks, splinters and other hazards. They are usually made of heat-resistant and scratch-proof polycarbonate.
Eye protection: Safety goggles or masks offer additional protection for the eyes against smoke, chemicals and mechanical influences.
Flame protection bonnets: These are worn under the helmet and protect the throat, neck and parts of the face from flames and extreme heat. Flame protection bonnets for firefighters are made of flame-resistant materials such as Nomex or PBI.
